    1.injury n. - damage, wrongful treatment

do an injury to a person

an injury to a person’s reputation

    injure vt.

    Smoking will injure your health.

    injured adj.

injury, wound, hurt, harm & damage

He got serious injuries to the legs at work.

The soldier received two wounds in the battle.

The hurt to his feelings is more serious than the hurt in his body.

The storm did great damage (或 harm ) to the crops.

    2、prevent vt.-stop or hinder

    prevent+n. / doing

    Rain prevented the base-ball game.

    prevent +n.+from doing. = stop/keep+n.+from doing

Their prompt actions prevented/stopped/kept the fire from spreading.

    Notes:

在prevent/stop sb. ( sth. ) from doing sth. keep sb. ( sth. ) from doing sth.

Nothing will prevent us ( from ) reaching our aims.

    3.thrill

(To feel ) a sudden quiver of excitement or emotion.

The traveler thrilled us with his stories.

    a thrill of joy [horror]

Disneyland is famous for its many thrills.

thrilling adj. very exciting to experience

e.g. a thrilling time at the park

    a thrilling experience

    4. Some thrill rides will let you feel what it is like to fall through the air: you sit in a car that “falls” from a tall tower and you cream your way down to a safe landing.

He elbowed his way through the crowd.

The – ing Form ----- used as Adverbial

    T i p s:

    1. – ing Form

    2. – ing Form

    3. – ing Form

    5. 它的否定式是 not doing / not having done

    類型:

    伴隨狀語 … and …

    時間狀語 When/After …

    原因狀語 As …

    (2)-ing form表示的是較次要的動作,對謂語表示的動作或狀態加以說明;

Working this way, they greatly reduced the cost.

    Notes:

    (1)-ing form 表示的必須是主語的一個動作;

    They sat facing each other.

    (3)-ing form表示的動作和謂語表示的動作(或狀態)是同時發生的,如果表示的動作在謂語動作之前發生,就需要用完成時。例如:

Seeing those pictures, he couldn’t help thinking of these memorable days in France.

分詞用when或while 加 -ing form:

Be careful when crossing the street.

He lives far from the company and is often late.

---Living far from the company, he is often late.

After she had found that money was stolen, she called 110 for help at once.

---Having found that money was stolen, she called 110 for help at once.
